Niia Bishop

Niia Bishop is a certified fitness trainer and the founder of Better at the Barn — a boutique fitness studio and wellness community rooted in Columbia, SC, at 5113 Farrow Rd.

Her approach is grounded in two foundational movement systems: Classical Pilates and the Gyrotonic Method. These aren't just fitness modalities — they're frameworks for understanding how the body moves, compensates, and heals. Niia uses them to create programs that are as individualized as the clients who come through her door.

What sets Niia apart isn't a method or a credential — it's the way she sees a body. She reads patterns, compensations, history. She understands that a teen athlete and a post-operative senior might need very different things, but both deserve the same level of attention and care.

She has worked with a wide range of clients: high school and collegiate athletes building performance and preventing injury, midlife professionals managing back issues from years at a desk, post-operative patients bridging the gap between physical therapy and real-world strength, and seniors who simply want to keep moving well through the years ahead.

The Barn wasn't built because there was nowhere else to train. It was built because there was nowhere else that felt like this — intimate, intentional, and deeply human.

The Approach

Movement systems built for real bodies.

Every program at Better at the Barn is informed by two foundational disciplines — chosen because they work for every body, at every stage.

Foundation One

Classical Pilates

Pilates is the art of controlled movement — building deep core strength, improving posture, and creating the muscular balance that protects joints and prevents injury. Niia uses Pilates principles as a baseline for all training, whether you're on a reformer or on the floor. It's precise, progressive, and endlessly adaptable.

Foundation Two

The Gyrotonic Method

Gyrotonic is a movement system that works the body in circular, spiraling patterns — the way the body actually wants to move. It improves flexibility, coordination, and joint health through fluid, three-dimensional movement. Especially powerful for clients with chronic pain, stiffness, or post-surgical limitations.

Always Included

Mobility & Functional Strength

Beyond any single method, every session integrates mobility work and functional strength — training patterns that translate into everyday life. Whether that's carrying groceries, playing with your kids, competing in a sport, or walking without pain, the goal is always movement that matters.

Coming Soon

Meditation & Life Coaching

Better at the Barn is expanding into the full wellness picture — integrating meditation, nutrition coaching, and life coaching into the community. Because getting better isn't just physical. It's mental, emotional, and relational too.
